Natural Sustainable fibers

Natural & Sustainable Fibers

Alpaca Wool
Sourced from the Andes, alpaca is one of the warmest, softest, and most sustainable fibers on Earth. It's naturally breathable, hypoallergenic, and biodegradable.

Cotton
Grown in small-scale South American farms, cotton is soft, durable, and uses less water and no harmful pesticides — a fiber that respects both skin and soil.

Cabuya (Agave Fiber)
A traditional Ecuadorian fiber made from agave plants, cabuya is strong, biodegradable, and used in bags, ropes, and artisan pieces. A true ancestral treasure.

Natural Leather
Ethically sourced in small batches, our leather is tanned using traditional, low-impact methods — respecting the animals and the land from which they come.

Recycled Polyester
When synthetic is necessary, we choose recycled. This helps reduce landfill waste while giving materials a second life, always paired with natural blends when possible.

Why It Matters

  • We believe in fashion that gives back to the Earth — not takes from it.
  • We are part and support Indigenous communities who preserve ancestral techniques.
  • Our materials are carefully sourced, responsibly made, and designed to last — creating art you can wear with purpose.

Ancestral Techniques

Our Journey: Born of Earth & Ancestry
We begin at dawn in the Andean highlands, where alpacas graze on crisp grasses, our hands echoing centuries of tradition. At Pacha Ancestral Design, we do not just craft garments; we honor a living legacy rooted in South America’s ancestral wisdom.
From the first shear to the final weave, every step connects back to Pachamama—Mother Earth—and the communities that have nurtured these fibers across time.

The Ancestral Pathway

Raising Alpacas
In highland villages like Otavalo and Cañar, families care for alpacas with respect for nature, ensuring humane, low-stress environments. Shearing is gentle and ethical, and the fiber is clean, soft, and hypoallergenic because alpacas carry no lanolin.

Sorting, Washing & Carding
After harvest, the fiber is sorted by fineness, washed to remove impurities, and carded to align fibers, preserving exceptional quality for weaving.

Spinning & Dyeing
We spin the carded alpaca wool into yarn using traditional methods. Natural dyes from cochineal, walnut husk, achiote, and native plants create vibrant, earth-inspired hues and reduce environmental impact.

Weaving: Looms That Breathe Tradition
On backstrap or pedal looms, artisans weave intricate patterns—mountains, rivers, sacred animals—each stitch a narrative of Andean cosmovision. We complement manual weaving with soft automated techniques, respectful of tradition and mindful of the modern scale’s impact on our communities.

The Human Story Behind Every Thread
In remote communities of Ecuador, women gather—generations working side by side—to spin, dye, weave, and remember. Grandmothers teach children not just techniques, but stories of identity, resilience, and care for Pachamama.
These weaving circles are more than workshops; they are cultural incubators and families. They restore heritage and foster economic independence through artisan cooperatives. Each finished piece supports this vital intergenerational work.

Why Shop with us?

Why Shop With Us? Because Your Warmth Goes Farther Than You Think
The answer is simple. When you support us, you are not just buying something beautiful—you are changing lives.
You are supporting a small Canadian business, and behind us are five artisan families from South America. Behind them is a community of over 30 people who rely on this work to survive.

Many of us are fortunate enough to never know what it feels like to live with less than five dollars a day. For our artisan partners, this is a daily reality.
When you buy from us, you are not donating—you are creating real, dignified work. Work that puts food on the table, pays school fees, and keeps a roof overhead.

That poncho or soft alpaca scarf you love does more than warm you. It warms entire homes.
It means a child has bread on the table.
It means a mother does not have to choose between medicine or rent.
It means tradition lives on through the hands that wove your garment.

You are buying a handmade piece, but what you are really doing is making change happen—not with charity, but with purpose.
You feel warm when you wear it. We feel the warmest knowing you care.

With all our heart,
The Pacha Ancestral Design Family
